May Meeting Registration

It's our last meeting before the summer break! The Benjamin Franklin Chapter is very excited about our program this month. Micah Gold-Markel will provide a case study on how his company was able to meet PECO's effective grounding requirements for the Swarthmore College 400kW DC solar array. Faced with the expansive size of the campus, the service entrance equipment that was almost a mile from the array, and the need to rapidly disconnect the array from the utility in the event of an over- or under-voltage situation, Solar States and the engineering team at Swarthmore College were able to design a solution employing relay cabinets and fiber optic cables to comply with the project's intricate demands. The challenges of the installation and how the NEC played a role in the solution will be featured in the discussion.

Our presenter will be Micah Gold-Markel, founder of Solar States. Micah is an entrepreneur, a Master Electrician in PA and DE, and an IREC Master Trainer. In 2022 Gold-Markel was honored as Solar Power World's 2022 Top Solar Changemaker. His company, Solar States, stands as a testament to his dual mission of addressing environmental issues while revitalizing the local economy with sustainable jobs. Through free training initiatives like the Bright Solar Futures program and the City-funded Find Your Ladder program, Gold-Markel has seen his students make significant strides in the solar industry, stepping into roles such as Master Electricians, Permitting Officers, and Lead Solar Installers. How can you afford to miss this educational opportunity?
